ECA 20 Years, EYCC 3 Years – Time to Celebrate!

ECA CelebrationECA CelebrationSenior and young chefs joined together on Tuesday January, 30th to celebrate the achievements of ECA’s 20 Years and the 3rd Anniversary of the Egypt Young Chefs Club.

As was entirely appropriate on the day of such a celebration we were blessed with perfect winter weather so everyone was able to enjoy the outdoor garden event to the fullest. The celebratory occasion was inaugurated by Chef Hossam Soliman, President of the Egyptian Chefs Association and Mohamed Hassan Afifi, Chairman of the Egypt Young Chefs Club. ECA Board Member Ramy Hassan was the MC for the celebratory event.

Following the official opening remarks all joined in the ice breaker game which enabled everyone to introduce themselves to colleagues they might not have met before. All the participants were divided into teams which were identified by fruit or vegetable names and then enjoyed 90 minutes of fun team building games.

The Egyptian Chefs Association made use of this special celebration to acknowledge its long term loyal members who have supported the ECA for 10, 15 & 20 years.These received an ECA Gold medal engraved with their name and gold stars indicating the number of years they have been loyal members; 1 star was awarded for every 5 years of membership.

The celebration was attended by 180 people among whom were ECA members, sponsors, board of directors and the ECA team. It was a great occasion for paying special tribute to the legendary chef Paul Bocuse who had just passed away at the age of 91 on January the 20th. The Egyptian chefs paid tribute to the Master Chef with a minute of silence and a minute of applause to celebrate his contribution to the chef’s profession during his well accomplished life.

After the official sessions of the day it was time to indulge in the delicious lunch prepared by the young chefs’ volunteers. Following the lunch were several presentations. One was from the main event sponsor Unilever Food Solutions’ Corporate Chef Hesham Rabia who emphasized the good cooperation between the multinational food company and the Association. Chef Mustafa Seif, the winner of the Top Chef award together with his colleague competitor from Egypt, Chef Salma Saleh,talked about their experience in competing in the Top Chef competition.

Associated Member Ali Nasreldin addressed the audience with a session on “We don’t hire people, we make people”, explaining to the young chefs that they have to work hard to refine their skills and invest in their career development. Herb Williamson also a loyal Associated Member made a presentation on “Why I love ECA” informing the audience of the diverse work of the Association from culinary training to chef’s competitions, food festivals and fun gatherings. Williamson emphasized the important work done by the Association in civil society and also highlighted the international scope and network of the Association.

To conclude the celebration the Egyptian Chefs Association awarded prizes to the teams who had performed best in the different team building games and distributed additional prizes consisting of various kitchen tools to those who were lucky in an exciting raffle.
