The Luxor Culinary Challenge'12, held on 20 September and kindly hosted by Sofitel Karnal Luxor, saw the talented chefs of Luxor showing off their skills and exhibiting their inspiring competition spirit.
The Luxor Culinary Challenge'12 included five live cooking competition categories and was organized to give the chefs of Upper Egypt a chance to sharpen their skills before the ECA live cooking contests scheduled to take place at Hace'12 from 1 till 4 October. However, rather than a small internal competition, the event turned out to be hugely popular with the chefs of Luxor and was a great success. Chefs from most of the main 5-& 4-star hotels in Luxor participated, among them, Sofitel Winter Palace, Sofitel Karnak, Hilton Luxor, Maritime Jolie Ville Luxor, Steigenberger Nile Palace Hotel, Ibis Styles Hotels and Iberotel Luxor.
Chefs showed their skills in individual competition categories as well as team contests, and were eager to learn from the expert judges present, Chef Markus Iten, President of the Egyptian Chefs Association and Chef Essam Sayed Mohamed, Chairman of the Red Sea Chefs Chapter. The press and media were also intrigued by the event and attended the buzzing kitchen to speak to the participating chefs and judges.
The award ceremony was honored with the attendance of Dr. Ezzat Saad, Governor of Luxor, who gave a special address to the participants, emphasizing the importance of their profession and how quality foods will contribute to the popularity of Upper Egypt as tourist destination. Many management teams of the participating hotels were in attendance to support and encourage their chef's teams.
The ECA wishes to thank Gamal Hassan, General Manager of Sofitel Karnak Luxor for hosting the event successfully and also wishes to thank all sponsors, participants and judges for making the first-ever Luxor Culinary Challenge such a success!
