  • Junior Chefs Team, representing the Arab Republic of Egypt, won the prestigious title of ‘African Culinary Champions 2022 at the African Culinary Cup competition during the Worldchefs’ Congress 2022 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, from the 30th of May till 2nd June.
  • This is the second time that Egypt has won the African Culinary Cup for Young Chefs Under 25, after winning the championship in South Africa in 2014.
  • Answering the highly acclaimed need for a Continental Culinary expression and measure of excellence Chef Stephen Billingham, Past President of the South African Chefs Association, established and held the inaugural African Culinary Cup in South Africa in 2013. This prestigious competition, endorsed by Worldchefs, brings together Young African and Middle East National Culinary Teams.
  • With five successful competitions achieved since the launch, involving Worldchefs member countries of Africa & the Middle East region, this competition has earned the status of being the platform for young chefs to network and compete in a professional and inspiring environment, encouraging and stimulating the culinary experiences, skills, and abilities of young culinarians from across the region. The core purpose is to challenge Chefs to set and maintain the highest level of culinary excellence, food standards, and professionalism. Through the African Culinary Cup, these goals are set at the highest level and accomplished along with the transfer of knowledge, dedication, and skills development.
  • A group of diverse teams came together in Abu Dhabi for the 6th competition. Teams from Ghana, South Africa, Namibia, Qatar, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates competed against each other highlighting the ethnic cuisine from each country. Each team comprises 1 senior chef and 3 young chefs to cook and prepare and serve a meal for 10 people during the competition.
  • “Competitions are a very important part of the Culinary world and this competition gives a platform for young chefs from Africa and the Middle East to show their skills and shine,” said Andy Cuthbert, Chairman of the Emirates Culinary Guild,
  • Continental Director of the African Middle East region and Worldchefs Congress Chairman for 2022.
  • Egypt aslo participated in Global Pastry Chef competition. The Global Pastry Chef Challenge features the crème de la crème in pastry competition. Competitors work to prove they can meet the standards of the world’s most modern patisseries, while showing an appeal to the five senses along with knowledge, extraordinary technique and of course, versatility.
  • In conclusion, Ashraf Gamal, Managing Director of the Egyptian Chefs Association, indicated that the Association’s strategy aims to have a new generation of Egyptian chefs prepared and trained to be ready by 2024 to participate in the Culinary Olympics, which is held every 4 years, with more than 80 countries participating.
  • “The Association is currently preparing the National Salon Culinaire, as well as the grand competition that will be held on the sidelines of the HACE Exhibition. This year, there will be nine hot kitchen competitions, and also the bakery and pastry departments will have competitions,” Ashraf Gamal added.
