The Philippine Embassy in Cairo marked the celebration of 2026 Filipino Food Month with a vibrant cultural and culinary gathering held at the Naseem Community Hub. The event brought together members of Egypt’s hospitality and culinary community for an immersive experience highlighting the richness of Filipino cuisine, culture, and traditions.

The Egyptian Chefs Association played an important role in supporting the event by inviting chefs, culinary enthusiasts, hospitality professionals, and culinary students to participate in the celebration. Through its strong network within Egypt’s foodservice and hospitality sectors, the Association contributed to strengthening cultural exchange between the Egyptian and Filipino culinary communities.

Filipino Food Month, first launched in 2018, is a national initiative in the Philippines driven by the Philippine Heritage Movement to promote and preserve Filipino culinary traditions. The initiative aims to raise awareness of Filipino cuisine, encourage culinary innovation, and recognize the contributions of chefs and restaurateurs in promoting the country’s gastronomic heritage while supporting tourism development.

The event opened with welcoming remarks by Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Ms. Crystal Ann S. Dunuan, who emphasized the diversity, warmth, and community spirit reflected in Filipino cuisine. She noted that a large number of attendees came from Egypt’s food industry, including members of the Egyptian Chefs Association, chefs from hotels and restaurants, culinary students, and cultural enthusiasts. She encouraged guests to explore Filipino flavors and expressed optimism for future collaborations between the Filipino and Egyptian culinary sectors.

Guests enjoyed a lively cultural and gastronomic program that included culinary workshops on traditional Filipino delicacies such as palitaw and spring rolls, presented by Filipino home cooks Ms. Ritche Garcia and Ms. Mary Anne Uy. The celebration also featured a mini sari-sari store experience, offering attendees a glimpse into everyday Filipino culture.

A variety of Filipino street food and baked specialties were served throughout the event, including butchi, pan de sal, and pan de coco from Tinapay Restaurant. The culinary experience was complemented by live musical performances from Ms. Felomila “Kim” Sowter, followed by a performance by Ms. Yara Mapandi.

The evening concluded with closing remarks by Vice Consul Mr. Bryan Fernandez, who thanked the guests, chefs, home cooks, and performers for contributing to the success of the Embassy’s Filipino Food Month celebration.
