Chef Markus Iten

Founder & Honorary President
Culinary Director of Ibis Restaurant and Cooking School

Chef Markus Iten is a highly experienced culinary professional with over 40 years of expertise in food preparation, kitchen management, and culinary education. He has played significant roles in various culinary associations and has been actively involved in the development of culinary standards and education in Egypt and beyond.

Starting his career in South Africa, Chef Markus contributed to the growth of the South African Chefs Association before moving to South Korea to revamp the South Korean Chefs Association. In 1992, he settled in Egypt and held executive chef positions in several 5-star hotels while dedicating his efforts to establishing the Egyptian Chefs Association.

During his career, Chef Markus has gained extensive experience in culinary arts competitions and served as member of the jury at many distinguished international culinary competitions as certified A judge of the World Associations of Chefs Societies (WorldChefs). He is also the founder and trainer of the National Culinary Team of Egypt, which has won several gold, silver and bronze medals in prestigious global competitions such as the IKA Culinary Olympics and the World Cup of Chefs.

He pioneered the establishment of state-of-the-art Culinary Training Centers in Egypt, providing high-quality training for aspiring chefs. Under his leadership, these centers graduated over 1000 students in professional cooking certified by City & Guilds.

Also the Egyptian Chefs Association, founded by Markus Iten in 1997, is a success story and expanding its services to the Egyptian chefs year by year. Chef Markus served as its President of the Board of Directors from 1997 till 2015.

Chef Markus’s latest venture is the Ibis Restaurant & Cooking School in the Egyptian countryside, in Tunis village in the El Fayoum oases, where he serves as Co-founder and Culinary Director, furthering his commitment to culinary education and innovation.
