Cairo, Egypt – June 2026

Every country has traditions, recipes, crafts, stories, and cultural experiences that make it unique. Yet many of these cultural assets face increasing pressure from globalisation, changing lifestyles, and declining interest among younger generations.
The Crafts & Culture Challenge (CCC), an initiative within the Future Leaders Platform ecosystem, was created to help address this challenge by bringing together students, educators, industry leaders, cultural experts, tourism professionals, and government stakeholders to celebrate, preserve, and reimagine the cultural heritage that defines the identity of a nation.
The inaugural edition took place on 22 June 2026 at Hilton Ramses Cairo, where culinary heritage served as the medium through which students explored and shared the story of Egyptian culture.

The event brought together students, educators, chefs, industry leaders, and cultural stakeholders, creating a unique platform where cultural heritage, education, tourism, and workforce development intersected through culinary storytelling.
Under the theme “A Taste of Home,” student teams were challenged not only to prepare dishes inspired by their traditions but also to explore the history, ingredients, communities, and personal stories behind them. Through research, storytelling, and presentation, participants helped document and celebrate Egypt’s culinary identity while sharing it with a wider audience.
Bringing together students from across Egypt, the challenge provided a platform for participants to create and present a two-course dining experience that balanced tradition and innovation while showcasing the diversity and richness of Egyptian gastronomy.
Menus were evaluated by a panel of leading chefs and industry professionals for creativity, authenticity, execution, storytelling, and the ability to convey a clear cultural narrative.
The event was supported by educational and industry partners from across Egypt, including strategic partner the Egyptian Chefs Association, helping to strengthen the connection between education, industry, culture, and future talent.
“Every recipe tells a story. Every ingredient carries history. Through the Crafts & Culture Challenge, we are empowering young people to become ambassadors of their heritage while helping preserve the stories, traditions, and professions that define Egypt’s cultural identity.”
Beyond celebrating culture, the initiative also aims to elevate the visibility and attractiveness of vocational professions such as chefs, tour guides, artisans, cultural specialists, and heritage professionals.
These professions play a critical role in preserving cultural identity, creating authentic tourism experiences, and supporting local economies. At a time when many cultural and vocational professions are struggling to attract the next generation, the initiative helps showcase the creativity, purpose, opportunities, and societal value these careers offer.
By giving students a platform to engage directly with industry professionals and cultural leaders, the Crafts & Culture Challenge highlights the purpose, creativity, and opportunities within these careers.
Together, participants explore how cultural heritage can be preserved, modernised, and translated into future opportunities for tourism development, workforce development, and economic growth. Participants are challenged not only to celebrate traditions but also to explore how heritage can be reimagined for contemporary audiences while remaining authentic to its origins.

The inaugural edition concluded with the recognition of student concepts that successfully combined cultural authenticity, creativity, storytelling, and culinary innovation.
Winning Team: Ziad Khaled Ali El-Sayed & Osama Sabry Ali Hassan
Institution: Alexandra University
Winning Concept: From the Nile to the Mediterranean
Menu Concept: A modern reimagining of Egyptian heritage that blends authentic flavors using key components such as date, rice, orange and pumpkin.

After careful deliberation, the judging panel selected team Alexandria as the overall winner of the inaugural Crafts & Culture Challenge Egypt 2026. As the inaugural edition concludes, the Crafts & Culture Challenge marks the beginning of a broader movement to preserve cultural heritage through education, tourism, innovation, and youth engagement. Through culture, storytelling, education, and innovation, the initiative aims to strengthen cultural pride, support tourism, elevate vocational education, and empower young people to become ambassadors of their nation’s identity.
